Joby Aviation's selection for early U.S. operations under the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program is one of the strongest signs that the American air taxi market is moving toward real-world deployment.

The company says it has the opportunity to begin early operations in multiple U.S. states, including Arizona, Florida, Idaho, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Utah.

That list matters, but the interpretation matters more. Early operations are likely to be controlled, limited, and highly coordinated with regulators and local authorities. This is not mass-market air taxi coverage. It is the proving ground.

Joby's advantage is that it is not only selling a futuristic aircraft story. It is trying to assemble the aircraft, certification path, operating model, and launch-market relationships needed to make passenger service credible.

If Joby executes, its early markets could become the template for how American cities introduce air taxi service.
